You want I break his legs?

Mikado {Gong} Ahhh Mikado.

Yes, Geelong Lyric (those kooky bastards that brought you Witches of Eastwick, Anything Goes and the illustrious Beauty and the Beast) are now bringing us the Gilbert&Sulivan classic and somewhat timeless show The Mikado. This production will be a somewhat "modern-ified" version of the Mikado as it is based not upon the original but rather the John English/Simon Galaher version. This production is being directed by the bloke who most recently brought us (and starred in, due to a main role becoming sick very early into the production week!) Anything Goes, a lovingly re-crafted Cole Porter classic. I have the great pleasure of assuming the mantle of KoKo, the Lord-High Executioner. This is a great role for me as it is even more all-over-the-place than LeFou from B&B. I'm looking foreward to this very much. Something I found quite charming (but which I'm sure others were quite annoyed by) was the fact that as far as auditioning for this part goes, I didn't actually audition in the true-est sense. Normally when one wishes to audition, one does so at the prescribed time, doing a general audition and mentioning (sometimes merely in passing) which role one would love to get. Then, if you are good enough you receive a call back for that (or some other) role. I missed the original auditions, and so I rocked up to the call backs. Thankfully they were a lot nicer than they could have been about my lack of organisation and gave me a call back audition for KoKo (the character i wanted) without having first auditioned. I got the role (and was quite surprised to do so I can tell you!). Anyway, hope you tune in next time for an incredibly unexciting update on what the Mikado is like! Cheers.
